A Sweet Father’s Day Session at Zion Nature Sanctuary

A man and two kids relax on a wooden bench, sharing smiles and laughter outdoors.

A Special Gift, a Thoughtful Moment

A few days before Father’s Day, I got a call from a mom in Zionsville with a simple, meaningful idea: a daddy-daughter photo session.

She wanted to give her husband the gift of time with their daughters—documented with care and joy. We found the perfect spot tucked away in town: Zion Nature Sanctuary.

This place is a quiet gem. A small pond, shaded walkway, tall grasses, and summer florals made it feel like we had stepped into a little nature hideaway. It was peaceful, bright, and just right for what we were there to do.

Why I Love Sessions Like This

These are the kinds of shoots I enjoy most—simple, thoughtful, personal.

  • No big setup

  • No pressure

  • Just real connection

This dad showed up ready to laugh, hug, and play with his girls. That energy shaped everything. From the first photo to the last, they were relaxed, present, and clearly happy to be with each other.

About the Location—Zion Nature Sanctuary

If you’re in the Zionsville area and looking for a quiet, natural space for photos, this is a spot I’ll always recommend.

Here’s why:

  • Tucked away but easy to access

  • Wide walkway for movement and playful moments

  • Greenery and flowers that change with the seasons

  • Soft morning or evening light that works beautifully on camera

It’s one of those places where families feel at ease. You can walk, sit, swing your legs off the edge of the boardwalk, or just let your kids explore the space while I snap away.

Letting Kids Lead the Way

The girls wore bold, bright dresses—one in yellow, one in pink. The color popped perfectly against the green backdrop.

They were full of energy, ideas, and curiosity. I always try to give kids room to move and be themselves during a session. Some of the best moments come when I let the camera follow them, rather than trying to direct every second.

Of course, we still got a few “everyone smile” shots. But what I love most are the images in between—the ones where they’re laughing at dad, hugging his arm, or telling him something only he needs to hear.

Sneaking in a Few with Mom

Toward the end of the session, I asked if mom wanted to hop in for a few shots. I'm so glad she said yes.

It’s easy to stay behind the scenes when you're the one planning things, but I always encourage parents to join in—even if it's just for a few frames.

These girls will love having photos with both of their parents. That matters more than perfect outfits or hair.
